Is Hillcrest Right For You?

Discover why this cottage is ideal for different types of visitors

For Families
The bunk bedroom suits children perfectly. The large enclosed garden with decking provides safe outdoor play space. Sandy beaches sit within walking distance for building sandcastles and rock pooling. Farne Islands boat trips from the harbour offer wildlife spotting opportunities. Bamburgh Castle is 3.5 miles away for exploring. The open-plan layout lets parents keep an eye on children easily.
For Couples
Hillcrest works better for families than couples due to its three-bedroom layout and bunk room setup. The woodburning stove creates cosy evenings and the enclosed garden offers privacy. However, the property lacks romantic features like a hot tub. Couples wanting a coastal retreat might prefer a smaller property. The central location does provide easy access to coastal walks and castle visits.
Pet Friendly
Two well-behaved dogs can stay at Hillcrest. The large enclosed garden with decking gives pets safe space to play and exercise without leads. Coastal walks start from the doorstep with miles of sandy beaches nearby. St Aidan's Beach welcomes dogs year-round. The ground floor layout means no stairs for older dogs. Water bowls and towels for muddy paws are recommended.

Hillcrest Reviews

We loved staying at Hillcrest. The house was clean, well laid out and had plenty of space for kids and dogs. The garden was lovely and so convenient for parking, if it was warmer weather we would have spent lots of time out there. We would definitely stay again and recommend to others as the location and facilities were spot on and made our stay really enjoyable.
Sharon
Very happy with the accommodation of Hillcrest. It had all that we needed in a super central location. Very clean and comfortable. I'd certainly recommend.
Lizbeth
Overall we loved the house, the location is perfect close to the shops and parking. It is also well located for trips out with many within a short distance. Great outside space which is secure if you have a dog, the parking permit is a real plus as it can be used at a few locations including Bamburgh links road saves 7. If you wanted to be picky there is a few cracked tiles and the sofas are a bit low for an oldie like me but we really enjoyed our stay and would go again.

This was the worst place we have ever stayed in when using Sykes , I am also ... This was the worst place we have ever stayed in when using Sykes , I am also disgusted in the customer service , I have been trying to speak to someone regarding our stay which we left early due to the cleanliness of the property we spent 3 days in there as could not wait to leave , the house was dirty , the office in seahouses said the cleaners had been back in to the house to clean they clearly had not there was numerous issues I want to discuss if I dont get any reply from Sykes I will take this matter further

We have just had a fantastic stay at Hillcrest. The cottage was both very clean and quiet and in a good central location for all the amenities Seahouses has to offer. Parking was made easy with the permit supplied with the property. We did encounter a wobbly toilet seat in the bathroom but hopefully this will be repaired before we visit again. Set in a lovely part of the country and a lovely cottage to stay in.
Michelle
Well what a lovely house this is, everything we needed was here. Beds very comfy, two separate rooms that work perfectly on an evening if one half of the family want to watch separate things on tvs.Gardens enclosed and perfect for our dogs. Seahouses is a beautiful place, love it here,so near to everything! One problem is parking, when we arrived the car park at the back was heaving, had to go to a pub for a couple of hours and eat while the car park emptied a little. Same thing happened Monday, went out, no spaces, but then found a space on main road at front where parking is permitted. So not the end of the world. Also the house next door is been renovated, there is noise till after 10.30 most nights! Still loved this house and would come back, many thanks x
We loved this cottage. The open plan kitchen dining lounge area was excellent and nice to come home to after a day out exploring Northumberland. The beds were very comfortable as were the sofas!. The storage shed was really useful as we were able to take the roof box off the car and store it safely away. We will definitely return to Hillcrest !
The cottage was comfy beds a good nights sleep easy towalk around the town parking ok
Great place to stay, perfect location!
The cottage was lovely, although we stayed in the back room as we found the living room to be a bit stark. Both of the beds were very comfortable & we slept very well. It is in an ideal location in Seahouses, very close to shops, restaurants and pubs & a lovely walk to Seahouses beach. We would have liked some hand cleansersoap in the bathroom & some kitchen spray & toilet cleaner to clean properly. As a guide to future guests, the property is on a roundabout so parking outside the front is not recommended for unloading. If you turn right at the roundabout coming from Beadnell, carry down along the high street, turn left at the next roundabout & first left again you get to the car park. Carry on in the car park until you see the sign on your left advertising The Bunker and that is the rear of the property. All in all, we had a lovely stay & would like to return again in the future.

Lovely house well equipped Great location central for everything Parking in ... Lovely house well equipped Great location central for everything Parking in main car park with permit and parked just outside back garden a little steep for some people but was ideal for us as straight out for taking dog for walk Out side space could do with a little TLC but didnt stop us from sitting out as we had good weather , had a lovely time would definitely return sometime thank you for letting us stay
Maggie
Loved the house and location and would definitely stay again and recommend people to stay. One little thing was the people next door have blocked access to get out with the bin, so was bit of a hassle taking it down the back and along the grass verge to find an opening. Maybe some people wouldnt manage this.
Christine
Excellent location just so near to everything, the butchers opposite had excellent breakfast sandwiches so we ended up not cooking any breakfasts . Our first night was a bit challenging as the majority of Seahouses was on a 16 hour power cut , however the owner came over with a couple of extra torches for us so we could use upstairs . Having a parking pass was great as could be used in other council car parks we never paid for parking all week. Garden is fully self contained so we had peace of mind for the dogs and there is gated access at the rear however I found the gate a bit of a struggle with gate when coming back in I am very short though , I wondered if a combination lock might be beneficial . What I would like to say how friendly people are in Seahouses, wherever you went and in particular there is a newsagent on the Main Street who strangely had electric when we were all off who made me some coffees and told me if I needed hot water to take a flask down and she would fill it for me.
Catherine
Thank you for having us at lovely Hillcrest everything you could wish for right on your doorstep. Made great use of the parking permit all over Northumberland. Comfy sofas, fabulous beds, great shower, warm and cosy. Spotlessly clean. We loved it
Joanne
Lets start with the positives. The house is in a great location and had a lot of space for us all. The beds were really comfy and a great shower. We didnt have any issues with dropping off our bags and parking at the back. The permit was great and we used it at other local car parks too. Seahouses is lovely, great pubs for food & drinks, lots of local shops and a coop across the road. Unfortunately the cleanliness of the house really let it down. On arrival the main room absolutely stank of wet dogs. We had to take out the rugs and put them in the outhouse and purchase candles but the smell never really went. It was manageable in the evenings when we had cooked, had a fire on etc but terrible again in the morning. There was also food under the throws and scatter cushions on the setees that we had to hoover up. This really makes a difference as you expect a certain level of cleanliness. The furniture was really tired and the selection of glasses, cutlery odd, broken and crockery chipped. We didnt have enough glasses for 4 of us so the kids had to use wine glasses! One of the dining chairs was broken, luckily we found this before sitting on it. Theres was a log fire but no wood. A couple of logs to start off the first night would be been a nice touch. We reported all the above to the letting agents who were lovely and offered a deep clean but we declined as we had cleaned it ourselves. This should be standard before guests arrive. We had a great holiday and absolutely loved Northumberland but couldnt recommend this property unless its had a full deep clean and some TLC.

Just enjoyed a fantastic stay at Hillcrest and would definitely return. Lovely house in an Ideal location with plenty on the doorstep. The house was perfect for us and two dogs. Loved the enclosed garden. Would recommend staying here. A couple of very minor things which definitely wouldn't put me off were only half a toilet roll between us for the entire stay and half a kitchen roll, no spares left so had to buy own. All of the candles and tealights need replacing as no wax in them. Look forward to returning.
Cheryl
Hillcrest was a perfect place to stay for our first visit to Northumberland. Very close to local amenities with a very good supermarket and butchers just across the road. Hillcrest was bigger than we thought when looking at it online. Parking was so easy as a massive car park at the back of the cottage. All free when displaying the permit. Beds were very comfortable and a great shower with plenty of hot water all the time. A big thank you to the owner for making our first visit to this wonderful part of UK. We will definitely be returning as so much more to see.
Weve just returned from a 3 night break away with family. The house is in perfect location as you can walk to all the restaurants, pubs, shops, and harbour. Its a bit of a walk to the beach so anyone with children wed suggest you drive to the sand dunes on the main road towards Bamburgh and walk through to the beach. Its free to park too! The house was clean and comfortable and we really enjoyed our stay. Our only negative, the house next door is being renovated so every morning unfortunately we got woken up to LOUD banging literally on the dot at 8am! The banging continued throughout the day onoff. We appreciate building works go on, just wish we had been warned in advance. Just to make people aware, staying here in future, its best to unload at the back of the house once youve picked up the keys and permit for the car from the front. The house is situated literally on a roundabout so not ideal to unload at the front, especially with children.
There was a problem with the drains which no one came out to us about, we ended up buying bleach and putting it down the sink but the smell returned in less than 24 hours. There is something scratching in the extension roof, some animal. Next door is having work done at weekends which started at 7.30am and was so loud you couldnt hear the tv. We went out. We rang up the company and no one replied to help us with these problems so we called in and they just apologised and said thanks for letting them know. Its a lovely house with great situation, though parking and rear access to unload luggage is a challenge but we wont be coming back unless we were assured all the problems had been fixed. It spoilt our week. Good job the weather was lovely and we could go out.
A great property. Fantastic location. Lovely and clean and well maintained. My two Dachshunds loved the house. Central to everything as described. Sorry, we forgot to read the handbook and didn't put the bins out for collection. . My partner and I and our pooches really enjoyed our stay and we would definitely look to re book in the future.
Christine
Very clean and comfortable and extremely handy for shops and restaurants. We have stayed here before and we're coming back in September. We are already talking about booking for next year.
Lovely & well appointed property in a very central & ideal location. Very clean, easy to access and very comfortable. A little home from home in such a beautiful part of the country. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
A lovely cottage right in the centre of Seahouses . .. perfect location! The cottage was clean, spacious and wellequipped, and the garden was tidy and fully enclosed perfect for our 2 dogs. The gate leading from the garden to the public car park behind the cottage was very handy, and a big bonus was the parking permit provided thank you! Would happily stay at Hillcrest again, and have already recommended to friends! Thank you for a great week!
Amazing stay the property is lovely and in a great position all shops takeaways and walks situated right on doorstep hoping to return in the summer months.
Very nice property, and excellent location. Nicely decorated, and good enclosed garden for dogs.
Yvonne
Comfortable, spacious, clean property in the centre of Seahouses, with everything on your doorstep, including a well stocked CoOp store nearby. The enclose garden is great for dogs. A bit tricky to unload luggage due to it being situated on a roundabout, but a parking permit provided for the public car park behind the house was useful, with the car park accessible either from the garden gate, or by a short walk through a well used alley between the local shops behind.
Once inside the cottage it was very nice warm and cozy with nice fixtures and fittings, however getting into the cottage was something else. The key safe is next to the front door, but the front door did not open, no matter what you did to it, this was the start, as we wanted to go into the cottage to work out where parking at the rear was, expecting to find a road or back lane, only to realise it was a public car park. This needs to be explained better. Now we have parked the car we were faced with a large bank of muddy grass which we then had to carry our bags up to the cottage, this was not ideal and I feel that if you were not great on your feet you would really struggle, remembering that this is the only access to the cottage, as the front door does not open ! The gate had a broken latch and the bolt to open it was on the inside of the gate, I personally could not reach the bolt, but luckily my husband could! There is a Brocken concrete block that I assume your supposed to stand on to reach the bolt again not great. Taking the door situation into account going out in the evening was not great as you were walking over muddy grass in your good shoes and on one evening I did actually slip over
Anthony
A lovely cottage on which to base our holiday in Northumberland.
Jacqueline
A wonderful property , very comfortable and well looked after , we were only there 2 nights but would happily of stayed a lot longer. Everything you could want is just about on the doorstop , with a very short walk to the coast . I would happily reccommend Hillcrest to family and friends and would readily go back there in the future .
Beautiful property in a great location. We enjoyed the proximity to Seahouse's pubs and restaurants. The property was very clean and nicely decorated and furnished. With three of us staying, we managed well, but six might be a struggle with the kitchen facilities and utensils. The fully enclosed garden was great for our dog too very secure.
Sandra
Fantastic. We had a lovely week at Hillcrest. The house was very clean and comfortable and so convenient for the local amenities. Seahouses is a great little harbour town with plenty of eating out options. Two local dog friendly pubs with great food. Indian and Italian restaurants with takeaway options plus fish and chips galore. So many places to visit nearby including Bamburgh Castle, Lindisfarne, Alnwick to name a few. A bit of a drive to Beamish but well worth a visit. Lovely to get back to Hillcrest and relax. The parking permit was very welcome and also allowed us to park in many car parks in surrounding towns. Highly recommended.
Caroline
Fabulous break in a great property. Great location, within walking distance to the amenities of Seahouses. Comfy, clean, spacious, light and airy house with the added bonus of a secure enclosed garden for the dog! Also the parking permit for the carpark right behind the back gate was handy and allowed us to use many other carparks in the area too. I'm afraid we didn't use the kitchen much as there were too many good eating places and takeaways in town, but it did seem very well equipped! I'd certainly stay here again.
We enjoyed our stay at Hillcrest very much. It was perfectly located, just a stones throw from the centre of Seahouses. The only thing that was missing was a mirror in the second bedroom, as I had to keep going into the first bedroom to dry my hair. Also the tap in the kitchen needs fixing as that is dripping. We do hope to return sometime in the future.
Dennis
The house us lovley and clean, a great place to stay. Maybe a little attention is needed outside .The lawn only cut on Monday but had not been cut for a while mould in the out house and the bench is dangerous probably needs removing . all in all great
