Is Marmalade Cottage Right For You?

Discover why this cottage is ideal for different types of visitors

For Families
The mezzanine playroom gives children their own dedicated space away from adults. The enclosed garden provides safe outdoor play without constant supervision needed. Sandy beaches sit 1.2 miles away for building sandcastles and rock pooling. Boat trips to see puffins and seals on the Farne Islands leave from Seahouses harbour. Six major castles within 25 minutes offer exploration opportunities.
For Couples
Marmalade Cottage works better for groups than couples. The five-bedroom layout and capacity for 10 guests makes it oversized for romantic breaks. Couples would find themselves paying for unused space. The open-plan living area lacks intimate corners. However, the coastal location and nearby castles provide romantic day trips if you don't mind the property size.
Pet Friendly
Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome at Marmalade Cottage. The fully enclosed garden lets dogs run safely without escape risks. Coastal walks start from your doorstep with miles of sandy beaches nearby. Seahouses village is dog-friendly with welcoming pubs. Dogs cannot be left unattended in the property. The ground-floor bedroom layout means no stairs for older dogs.

Marmalade Cottage Reviews

Duncan
9 adults stayed in Marmalade Cottage for a surprise 60th birthday celebration. The property is lovely , clean , well equipped with lots of space for us all. the generous welcome pack was appreciated. the owner text to wish us a lovely stay and was reassuring to have a number if there were any problems . We will definitely return and have no hesitation in recommending to others
We spent a few days over Christmas here with our teenagers and hosted my parents for Christmas dinner. Everyone had a fantastic time. The house is beautiful and so comfortable and well thought out, easily accommodating the needs of various generations. The kitchen is really well equipped and the owners had decorated and kindly provided seasonal extras making it as easy as cooking at home. A walk on the beach, lunch in the pub at Bamburgh followed by a log fire perfect. Couldnt recommend more highly.

We stayed at Marmalade cottage over New Year and can honestly say, it is one of the most beautiful, well equipped & clean properties we have ever stayed in. The whole house is stunning, the attention to detail is fantastic. We stay in rental properties every year, and often find the kitchen lacking in equipment, but this house literally has everything youll need. Enough wine glasses for a small army, which was great when a few of our family joined us for a few hours for our daughters birthday celebration. We requested an extra bed in one of the upstairs rooms due to it being shared by our 20 year old and his friend fully expecting a camp bed or pop up bed, but arrived to find a proper bed made up for them! There was no issue for the owner to provide this at all and we were very grateful. The beds were very comfortable, and individual decor in each bedroom was lovely. There was a power cut whilst we were there and within minutes, we had a call from the owner Sam, checking we were ok and had everything we need. She sent the maintenance guy round to make sure the new heating system got back up and running as soon as the power came back on. The welcome pack was amazing, and there was a sufficient supply of kindling and firefighters to last a few days for the log burner, which we topped up before we left. We have already booked for New Year 2627 and cannot wait to return. It is our daughters birthday again whilst we are there, along with our wedding anniversary, and we couldnt think of a more beautiful house to celebrate in. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay, we will be back soon!
Steven
Just had a family weekend at Marmalade Cottage. Amazing house which is close to town. Would highly recommend booking here and the garden is amazing for anyone with dogs. Lovely welcome pack and great communication with Sam the owner thank you
We had an amazing weekend and the cottage was just as we hoped it would be clean, comfortable and felt like a real treat with a gorgeous welcome basket there for when we arrived. The weekend was made even better by the contact from the owner who arranged an early check in, sent wishes for a lovely weekend and left their number in case we needed them. Brilliant from start to finish.

The property was exactly as advertised, spacious, well maintained and very clean and tidy. It was very well suited to a family get together and everyone was happy with their rooms and ensuite facilities. The log burner was an excellent feature which made the place homely and welcoming. The welcome pack was lovely and much appreciated. It contained many essentials and some nice treats.
The accommodation is beautiful. The furnishings are all of a high standard and very tasteful. There is everything you need for a wonderful stay. The garden is large and great for children. The patio is a good size for family entertainment. The beds were all comfortable and the there were plenty of bathrooms. We had a wonderful stay and couldn't fault anything. We would definitely stay again.
Excellent accommodation in a fantastic location.
Andrea
Beautiful cottage, great location being able to walk into Seahouses for supplies, to the beach, for ice cream and to wander round the harbour. Extremely clean and well furnished. Best welcome pack we have ever had, garden was lovely to sit out in as the weather was kind. The Northumberland coast is stunning so many great places to visit. Hope to be able to return.
Rosemary
Great house and garden. Owner very helpful indeed. Very good welcome pack and request for early entry because of small children successful. Would book again.
This house ticked all the boxes for us. We were celebrating a 70th, 2 engagements and a new grandson! We also had dogs The confined and protected garden was perfect for both dogs and children. We just love Seahouses and all the surrounds so much to do and see right on your doorstep. Loads of parking as we had 4 cars. Perfect set up inside so our younger members could play on the protected but open landing and sleep soundly away from the noisy rest of us. The owner was easily contactable for any questions which I really appreciated.

Our second visit to Marmalade cottage and it was as good as the first. Super bedrooms & bathing facilities and a lovely spacious, bright sitting area. Plenty of kitchen equipment, crockery, cutlery & serving dishes. We had a great time with easy walking into Seahouses. Definitely a 5 property.
Great property, we had a fabulous weekend. Would definitely recommend
Absolutely fantastic place for our big family group. The house is amazing and such a great place to relax, both inside and outside. Location is also superb. Thanks for letting us stay and Im sure we shall return!
What a fabulous stay we had here! We went for a 70th birthday, 9 adults, toddler and two dogs, the space was amazing. The house itself was beautiful. The location was brilliant for us! Just a short walk into seahouses and to Bamburgh Castle!
We have just returned from a wonderful Easter weekend at Marmalade Cottage. The cottage is just beautiful. Cosy, comfortable, with everything you could need to enjoy a 5 star holiday. The location is perfect, only a short walk into Seahouses. The welcome hamper was the best weve ever received and was greatly appreciated. Sam sent a text on the morning of our stay to introduce herself and was quick to respond to my message during our stay. Not that we had any issues at all. We would highly recommend this cottage and cant wait to hopefully return in the future. Thank you Sam
Patricia
The accommodation was perfect cannot fault it.
Marmalade Cottage is a fabulous property for a family gathering, we had a great time and can not fault the property or owners. Thank you!!
Nicola
Bearing in mind that we arrived the same day as Storm Eowyn, the house was warm, toasty and not a single draft anywhere. We were a party of 10 adults and couldnt have been happier with Marmalade Cottage. It was spotlessly clean, spacious, very well equipped and the designer led decor was amazing. A lovely welcome pack awaited us and there was a never ending supply of logs for the fire. We couldnt fault the whole weekend and would definitely return.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this great holiday cottage. We were very appreciative of the generous welcome package and support from the owner when contacted about a hot water issue was prompt and the problem was solved very quickly. A fantastic setting for our pre Christmas family get together.
Geraldine
We had a lovely time in Northumberland and Marmalade Cottage was warm and comfortable. We enjoyed staying there. Some areas had not been properly cleaned for a while and so the rota of cleaning seems not to have worked as designed. The facilities were very good, although we were a little bemused by the lack of a few basics like spare bin bags and dishwasher salt. We were very impressed by the prompt response when we lost hot water and it transpired that the oil had run out all was well by the end of the day. The welcome pack was also very much appreciated. Making contact with Northumbria Cottages could be easier we spent a long time doing this when previous visitors had left some property behind.

We had the most incredible time at your property! It was stunning the decor is sooo perfect and the space is beautifully designed. We never felt like there were so many of us! It was spotless and had all we needed. We utilised everything we could and the location is great too. We wanted to check on your neighbour at no.99 as she had a fall, we saw her on her outside step and managed to get her inside but we didnt see her again, really hope she is okay. My only critique is to put more pics up as we had no idea how big the garden is, the photos you have don't do it justice! So beautiful. We might start a family tradition to come back every year cause we had such a laugh. Also the WELCOME PACK what a gorgeous touch!!
I would only recommend Sykes if Saturday changeovers were available. Our Friday journeys were horrendous as they always are and some of my party had to take an extra day off work too. Marmalade Cottage is beautifully appointed and very comfortable. There is a lovely garden and it is only a short walk from Seahouses centre. We had the best welcome pack we had ever received thank you! The only problem we had was with the amount of dust which caused both my daughters to sneeze constantly. Otherwise a very enjoyable stay in a lovely house.
Beautiful, stylish, spacious and comfortable ideal for family gathering.
Dwynwen
We absolutely loved Marmalade Cottage, Seahouses. Perfect location, beautiful garden and such a pretty and well maintained cottage. Despite being just the two of us and two dogs I would definitely stay in this cottage again. I couldnt reset the oven which flashed STOP but I chose not to have it seen to as it wasnt the be all and end all. I reported it though for the next visitors. I was sad to leave
Sophie
Stunning house, perfect for a family get together. Very clean, love the decor. A welcome basket on arrival was the perfect addition and very thoughtful. A couple of maintenance issues very minor but there was a book to write in anything we found to be a problem but like I say the issues we found were very minor. Would definitely recommend this house to stay in for a get together. My sister had the perfect 30th weekend
A great base for exploring the area ten minutes walk into Seahouses for boat trips, pubs and restaurants and a short drive to amazing beaches and castles. Configuration of the property suited our party perfectly and offroad parking was useful. However, we just had the feeling that corners may have been cut at changeover cleaning time. A number of items of childrens' clothing from the previous visitors had been left in the washer and some areas were rather dusty particularly on the mezzanine level. Our son is asthmatic so we do tend to notice it more. The water pressuretemperature in the ground floor walkin shower was hitandmiss and hopefully you found our note in the repairs book and could remedy it before the next visitors arrived.
Andrew
We all had an amazing Christmas holiday. The house was beautiful and we had everything that we needed. The Welcome Christmas hamper was unexpected but a lovely and thoughtful touch. The house is in a fantastic location with lots to do, see and visit. We would love to visit again in the Spring months to see more of the wildlife. Thank you once again to the owners as you have created a stunning house in a lovely location.
Christina
During our stay the hot water and heating went off twice. The response to this issue was dealt with quickly and efficiently
We had a lovely stay at Marmalade Cottage, its well equipped, the beds are really comfortable and its decorated and fitted out to a high standard, the garden is lovely but could of done with a barbecue and theres no recycling for cardboard or plastics, which isnt really acceptable.
We stayed here last year, had a wonderful stay and re booked for this year and paid a premium for the privilege. The furniture is looking dated. For example The backs of the kit kitchen chairs are damaged and worn etc. The main issue was the stench when we arrived. At first we didnt know what it was. We couldnt open the outside windows at the front. When we first used the outside bin the number of flies that flew out was astonishing. Yup, the bin was putrid. Thereafter to use the bin we had to put a bin liner in, in a split second. My wife was wretching when she went to the car. We complained during our stay. Maintenance simply moved the bin 8 feet further away from the property. The bin should have been emptied and chemically cleaned. Towards the end of the stay there was a large number of flies in the garden and property. We have therefore not booked for next year Simon Helliwell 07540876445
A lovely place. We will be stopping there again.
Edward
We had good weather. We would have used the outside areas more if there had been more outside furniture and a fire pit or chimera. A brush and dustpan for outside would have been useful to keep the area clean
We had a fantastic week at Marmalade Cottage, it is a really lovely place. It is very clean, spacious, & well appointed. The owners are attentive they came to introduce themselves on the first day, & also a faulty tap was dealt with on the Sunday extremely quickly. It is well situated & only a few minutes walk to the centre of Seahouses. Myself & my friends would highly recommend staying here.
Darron
Stayed the last 4 years with Northumbria cottages and the owner Sam. Absolutely top top notch as always check Sams houses out and you wont go anywhere else remember you only get what you pay for
Geoffrey
An excellent property transformed by the impressive rear extension which opened to a large garden. This allowed for a great open livingdining experience overlooked by a mezzanine landing. The house was well equipped and with five comfortable bedrooms our group had a wonderful weeks holiday
Michelle
Was such an amazing location, the home was so lovely, we did tend to just use ... Was such an amazing location, the home was so lovely, we did tend to just use the main bathroom due to low pressure in ensuite showers but the stay was incredible
Lovely stay and a beautiful holiday cottage. Are only issue were the ensuite showers were either scalding hot or very cold the family bathroom was perfect but it meant all eight had to take turns using it ! Thanks again for a lovely stay
